Went hiking (don’t be fooled; it’s just a small hill) with mom and dad at Taman Rakyat this morning. Lack of exercise for the past year has taken its toll on my physical fitness; I used to love running and had pretty good stamina, especially when I used to go for taekwondo lessons back in high school. They made us run around school 7 or 8 times (though we would usually give ourselves “discounts” XD) and there would be those agonizing stretching movements to help us warm up. But yeah, I was fitter back then.
Tried picking up taekwondo in uni, but with hall activities on one hand and studies in another, I just couldn’t find the time.

Anyway. We were on our way back to the car when we were approached by some people manning a mini booth. Anyway the lady in charge asked if we wanted to have a simple health check on our BMI, body fat etc just by standing on a weighing scale thing. (Sorry ah, despite studying medicine, I still don’t know what it’s called!)
Anyway my results: (optimal results in brackets)
Surface body fat: 25.5 (20)
Body water content: 56% (70)
BMI: 19.2 (18-25)
Visceral fat: 1 (1)
Muscle mass: 19 (around optimal)
Rate of metabolism: that of a 17 year old
She asked me to gain weight (!!!) to 45kg so that I could donate blood, though I’ve never understood the reasoning behind setting weight as the threshold instead of BMI. I’m short enough already, and I should gain more weight?!!!
I forgot my bone density results, but they were lower than optimal. Together with my higher than optimal surface body fat, I guess I am still <45 kg ’cause my bone weighs less and not cause I am fit! The body water content was probably not that accurate as we had just finished exercising.
Note to self: More exercise, less nasi lemak and bak kut teh!!
Mom did the test as well, and she aced every part of it, aside from having too little body fat >.< The test also indicated that mom had a metabolism rate of a 36 year old! (She’s a baby boomer)
I don’t know how accurate the test is, but at least it’s a kind reminder for me to eat healthier and do more exercise, and most importantly, listen to my mom!
