Glossary of slangs

This is a glossary of slangs that I may use in my blog due to exposure to two different cultures: Manglish (Malaysian English) and HK’s chiu yu (潮语)

Some 潮语:

  • Pok chun (搏尽) – being hardworking
  • tat pei  (撻皮) – being lazy
  • chut pool (出pool) – went from being “single” to “in a relationship” (as in get out from the “singles” pool of people)
  • churr (no chinese word for this) – busy/lots of things to do
  • champ jor- “won” / is better than the others
  • sor – sorry
  • su m su – are you sure?
  • tui (颓) – lame
  • chao shu (抽书)- ask questions to test your knowledge
Manglish:
  • rojak – may refer to a type of food, or indicating mixture of different things, eg culture/people/languages
  • pasar malam – night market
  • kiasu – scared of being at the losing end
  • bo jio – didn’t invite me
  • walaueh/walau – oh my goodness
Subject to constant revision! =)
