This is a glossary of slangs that I may use in my blog due to exposure to two different cultures: Manglish (Malaysian English) and HK’s chiu yu (潮语)
Some 潮语:
- Pok chun (搏尽) – being hardworking
- tat pei (撻皮) – being lazy
- chut pool (出pool) – went from being “single” to “in a relationship” (as in get out from the “singles” pool of people)
- churr (no chinese word for this) – busy/lots of things to do
- champ jor- “won” / is better than the others
- sor – sorry
- su m su – are you sure?
- tui (颓) – lame
- chao shu (抽书)- ask questions to test your knowledge
Manglish:
- rojak – may refer to a type of food, or indicating mixture of different things, eg culture/people/languages
- pasar malam – night market
- kiasu – scared of being at the losing end
- bo jio – didn’t invite me
- walaueh/walau – oh my goodness
